mono junks cult label dum records is back with a new five track various artists ep that again packs a vital punch. he appears himself along with some fellow legends of the scene. first up, morpholgy is a consistent performer who has continued to serve up quality electro since 2009 and here serves up a hot new piece. vector plant is busy and industrial, slick and metallic as it unfolds and burrows deep into your veins. then comes the a2, irwin berg featuring freestyle man (aka finnish moodmusic boss sasse aka klas lindblad) with a track made in 1995 and never released before. this pair worked together and made a cult electro record for sähkö recordigs in 1998 and this one is just as impactful. it is frosty and frazzled, slow motion but high impact and full of distorted lines and heavy drums. next is mr velcro fastener who were the first kings of electro to come out of finland and between 1999 and 2006 were famous all over the world. their brand new cut almost there is a deep one that is riddled with bleeping melodies and has smeared chords bringing a sci-fi feel. then it is mono junks turn to dive into the vaults with an unreleased track from 2005. feeling or destroy is a physical number with crashing hits and snaking, gurgling bass that is dark and dystopian. last of all comes irwin berg with mono junk as new york city survivors. says the dum boss, our unreleased track here was made after the new york city survivors static light cd 2002 and it is a turbo charged track with screwed up grinding bass, icy hi hat rhythms and menace in its grooves.

cocytus, meaning -the river of wailing, is a river in the underworld in greek mythology. it flows into the river acheron, across which is the underworld, the mythological abode of the dead. dante describes cocytus in inferno as being the home of traitors and those who committed acts of complex fraud. the river of wailing is divided into four arms: antenora, after antenor from the iliad, traitors to country. judecca, after judas iscariot, traitors to masters and benefactors. caina, after the biblical cain, traitors to blood relatives. ptolomea, after ptolemy, governor of jericho, who murdered his guests (1 maccabees), traitors to guests. based on these assumptions cot labelhead hours crafted three pensive tracks, one of which was reinterpreted by brian sanhaji.

veil of light is the synth/postpunk solo project of a mystery man from zurich known to the wider world only as m. the project was born in 2012 when all the tracks for the veil of light eponymous 2013 ep released on belaten were recorded by m in a bunker near zurich. that last fact incidentally is a good way to describe the music released under this projects name much like the mental image of a bunker it is cold dark and forces one into a contemplative resigned state. the influences that immediately come to mind listening to veil of light are 1980s wave music post punk industrial and dark ambient all weaved together by an overarching depressive yet dreamy atmosphere. it has been called gothgaze and the description seems apt. the followup to the opener the 7 cold skin single released on edition gris and the debut lp simply titled as well as this years head/blood/chest ep continue in the same vein.

new years deal - the next chapter in the creme organization ecplise series comes from cosmic garden with three original tracks and one remix from orgue electronique. little is known about cosmic garden other than he is from southern italy and has had two eps out in 2016, one on hotmix and one on cosmic rhythm. he heads out the blocks here with reptilian treant , six minutes of lo-fi deep house that is roomy and atmospheric. lazy synths bring soul and a gentle chatter of claps and hits helps drive it along. rare centaur is also way below the surface but is darker and more celestial, with turbulent bass, frantic claps and angelic chords glowing like a white light at the end of a tunnel. dutch house and electro don orgue electronique then remixes reptilian treant into something that is slick and serene, with metallic lines dancing above rubbery drums as big piano chords boucle up top. it is joyous and colourful and truly majestic before final track apocalyptic moose takes us back down into a mournful house vibe that echoes chicago with its roughhewn analogue textures and lovestruck chords.
